I start my preparation

Hi guys,
I have started my preparation. I have started with Reading comprehension as i have felt I am a hard core reader and I have prepared for CAT also so i thought it is going to be a cakewalk for me,so i straigth away started with OG 11 RC section. But in just one days time i realized that its not going to be as easy as i have thought.

So now i am shifitng to plan B i.e. i am going frst complete the research on RC first and then again will try to go to OG again. i am enlisting some tips that i have come accross.

1. Never confirm your answer to a question until you've read the entire passage. Information relevant to a question can appear anywhere in the passage.

2. Using your pencil and scratch paper, jot down a rough outline as you read. It will help you locate relevant details quickly as you answer the questions, and minimize vertical scrolling and re-reading.

3. Don't be overly concerned with details (dates, examples, and lists) as you read; instead, jot down in outline form where these details are located in the passage so you can locate them quickly as needed to respond to the questions.

4. After reading the entire passage, take about 15 seconds to sum it up in one sentence—in the form of a rough thesis statement. Doing so is well worth the effort, because you'll be able to answer some Reading Comprehension questions with nothing more than the thesis in mind.

5. No matter what type of question you're dealing with, eliminate any answer choice that runs contrary to the passage's overall thesis.

6. Be on the lookout for answer choices that provide information supported by the passage but not responsive to the question. This is one of the test-makers' favorite wrong-answer ploys.

7. If the author of the passage adopts a position, or stance, on an issue, but discusses other viewpoints as well in the passage, be on the lookout for answer choices that confuse the author's viewpoint with the viewpoints of others. This is another common wrong-answer ploy.

8. Be on the lookout for wrong answer choices that provide information not mentioned in the passage—yet another common wrong-answer ploy. These wrong answer choices can be tempting, because it's remarkably easy to assume that you overlooked the information as you read the passage.
9. Do not skim, but read quickly. This is a personal strategy. I find that I digest information better when I don't gloss over too much detail. These are strategies that work especially well for me, but I advise all you GMAT test prep folks out there to try it for yourself. Experiment!

1. Extreme WordingAnother clue to watch out for is EXTREME words. These are the ones that are so intense or absolute that they are most likely signaling WRONG ANSWER, WRONG ANSWER.
Here are some examples: » all » always » never » everyone » every time » everybody » noone » nobody » most » least » best » impossible » absolutely » forever

2. Watch for Signs!

There are a number of words that are clues or signposts that change is straight ahead. These words signal that the message or main idea of a passage is about to go in a different direction. For those important "Main Idea" questions, this is very important. Here is a chart of the words to keep an eye out for.

Watch Out! An additional point is coming! furthermore, in addition, also, too, as well as

Oh Hey! To add to this idea . .likewise, for instance, for example, similarly

On the Contrary! New direction ahead . .however, but, on the other hand, although, despite, except, while, nevertheless.

These are strategies that work especially well for me, but I advise all you GMAT test prep folks out there to try it for yourself. Experiment!
